GAZA, Oct 2025: The Global Sumud Flotilla, an international convoy of aid boats heading towards Gaza, has announced that it has entered high-risk waters near its destination. The move has raised concerns of a possible confrontation with Israeli forces, especially after Italy confirmed it would no longer track the flotilla with its naval frigate.

The flotilla, made up of over 40 civilian vessels carrying more than 500 participants including lawmakers, lawyers, and global activists such as Greta Thunberg, has been determined to deliver aid directly to Gaza and challenge Israel’s blockade.

Flotilla on High Alert

According to an official statement on its Telegram channel, the Global Sumud Flotilla said several of its boats were approached by unidentified vessels sailing without navigation lights. The convoy implemented emergency security protocols before the approaching boats eventually left the area.

“We have now entered the high-risk zone, the area where previous flotillas have been attacked and/or intercepted. We are on high-alert,” the group declared.

This high-risk zone has historical significance, as it has previously been the site of confrontations between pro-Palestinian aid ships and Israeli naval forces.

Italy Ends Naval Tracking

Italy had been monitoring the flotilla with a naval frigate, but on Wednesday, the Italian Defence Ministry confirmed that it would stop tracking once the convoy reaches 150 nautical miles (278 km) from Gaza’s shoreline.
